The Most Popular iPhone and iPad Apps of All Time

Report Methodology

  • Revenue and download data in the Most Popular iPhone and iPad Apps of All Time report spans July 2010 to July 2015. This data is based on estimates available through App Annie Store Intelligence. Intelligence revenue estimates are based on revenue that the iOS App Store earned from paid downloads and in-app purchases. They do not include revenue earned from in-app advertising.
  • Download and revenue rankings are based on the App Annie DNA relationships at the time of publication. App Annie DNA relationships are subject to change over time.
  • Active user rankings are based on a large user sample and are available through App Annie Usage Intelligence. These rankings exclude pre-installed iOS apps (e.g., Safari, Calendar and App Store) and are not based on App Annie DNA relationships. In the case of two versions of an iOS app being available, the one with the highest MAU (monthly active user) count is used for ranking purposes.
  • Occasionally, a publisher may decide to shift an existing app from one category to another category.  In these cases, the Most Popular iPhone and iPad Apps of All Time ranks that app based on its app store categorization at the time of publication.
  • Similar versions of the same app with different names are unified and ranked as a single app (e.g., Candy Crush Saga, Candy Crush Kakao, 糖果传奇, and 캔디크러쉬사가 are aggregated and ranked as a single Candy Crush Saga unified app).
  • Any non-App Annie trademarks or images used in this report are the property of their respective owners. App Annie claims no rights in those trademarks.
  • Release date signifies the first release date of an app on the iOS App Store
